My child is sick but the office is closed. What should I do?

If the office is closed and your child is sick, please call our After Hours Line (301) 455-0563. Please note: this line is for urgent medical questions only.

My child is sick. How do I make an appointment?

Please walk-in at any time that the office is open. Try to call us at 301-891-6141 on your way to let us know that you’ll be coming in for sick walk-in. That way we can start the registration process and try to get your child into a room more quickly. You can still come even if you can not call us.

Can I see the same provider at every visit?

It is generally recommended that you try out all the providers at different visits. If you feel more comfortable with one provider, when scheduling an appointment, please make sure to EXPLICITLY STATE YOUR PREFERENCE WITH THE SCHEDULER. If you do not state your preference, the scheduler will base your appointment solely on the date and time you have requested. As an added measure, take the scheduler’s name.

For Sick Walk-In Hours: Please note, because provider schedules vary, it may be necessary to call ahead to confirm that your preferred provider is scheduled.

What is a well visit?

A well visit, commonly known as a “check-up,” is routine physical exam that is part of a patient’s regular care. Well visits are done at specific ages and may or may not include vaccines.

A sick or non-routine visit (e.g., rash, fever, asthma check) does not count as a well visit as it does not address key health checks monitored at routine well visits.

For a listing of age-specific well visits, visit My Child’s Next Visit.

Can I schedule a well visit on a Saturday?

Because of our Saturday Sick Walk-In Hours, we have limited openings for well visits for infants up to 12 months of age. It is highly recommended to schedule Saturday well visits at least one month in advance.

When do you give children vaccinations?

We follow the guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics and encourage our patients to do the same. It is known that failure to vaccinate against vaccine-preventable diseases not only puts your child at risk but also the public’s health.

We ask that parents make informed, evidence-based decisions about their child’s immunization.

We may be able to accommodate alternative schedules however parents must sign a waiver each and every time a CDC scheduled vaccine is declined.

For a listing of age-specific immunizations, visit My Child’s Next Visit.

Where can I get information regarding the vaccinations my child will receive?

Vaccine Information Statements (VIS ) are vaccine information sheets created by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which explain the benefits and risks of a vaccine.

By federal law, patients must receive a VIS prior to vaccination.

How do I get a prescription refilled?

You can call our office directly or you can have the pharmacy send us a request by e-refill or by fax at (301) 891-6141. Please call your pharmacy first to make sure you have no remaining refills.

We cannot give refills on antibiotics or steroids without seeing your child first. The only exception to this rule is for patients on prophylactic antibiotics for chronic health conditions (e.g., sickle cell anemia, chronic urinary tract infections, etc.).

We do not give refills on medications prescribed by a subspecialist.

How can I get referred to a specialist?

If there is an issue for which the healthcare provider has not yet seen your child, you must first schedule an appointment to evaluate the concern. If the provider finds that a specialist is needed, he or she will write you a referral. A referral is only valid for 30 days.

How do I get medical forms completed for my child?

If you need a school, sports, or camp form completed for your child, you can drop it off or fax it to our office anytime during our office hours.

Your child must be up-to-date with their well visit. If your child is not up-to-date, we cannot fill out forms.

Please allow 5 business days for the forms to be completed. There is a $15 charge for the completion of each form for patients with private (non-Medicaid) insurance.

How do I schedule an appointment for my child’s well visit?

Please call our office at (301)891-6141 to schedule an appointment.

An appointment is required for all well visits. We do not accommodate walk-in well visits.

I am running late for my child’s appointment. What do I do?

Please call (301) 891-6141 to speak to our receptionist. Patients are given a 15 minute grace period. If patients are unable to arrive within the 15 minute grace period, it may be necessary to reschedule. If the schedule allows, we may still be able to see your child.

I need to cancel an appointment. How much notice must I give?

Patients must give at least 24 hours notice before canceling an appointment. If you do not give 24 hours notice, you may be assessed a no-show fee of $25.

Can I schedule a well visit during the evening hours?

Because of our evening Sick Walk-In Hours, we have very limited openings seasonally. Generally, we are unable to schedule evening well visits during high-peak seasons such as flu season and allergy season. Please call to inquire.

How do I get school or camp forms completed?
Please drop off your forms at our front desk with the receptionist. Please note forms may take 5-7 business days to complete.
